Tofu with basil and soy sauce

Tofu for a vegetarian dish with southern Asia flavor. Serve with rice noodles or brown rice.

Ingredients

1 cup basil (fresh basil, torn into small pieces)
5 scallion (sliced)
6 cloves garlic (minced)
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon sauce (sambal oelek)
1 package tofu (firm tofu, well drained, sliced and marinated in soy sauce)
  water (for stew-frying)

Instructions

Add a tiny amount of water to a non-stick saucepan and cook onions and garlic until tender.

Add the tofu slices and sauté for about 8 to 10 minutes.

Stir in the sambal oelek, soy sauce and basil and cook until heated through.

Serve immediately.

Notes

Use a wheat free soy sauce to make this recipe also free of gluten. Check ingredients for the sambal oelek sauce.

Thai basil would be the best variety to use for this recipe.

Prepare tofu

Slice the tofu into 1/5 inch slices and marinate in soy sauce for 30 minutes.

Variations

Make it a tofu an vegetables dish adding your favorite ones, such as French beans, rinsed an cut.
