Creamed ground beef on toast

This recipe won the Best Ground Beef Recipes contest from All Foods Natural December 2008.

Ingredients

1 pound beef (ground)
1 onion (finely chopped)
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1⁄2 teaspoon salt (sea salt)
1⁄2 teaspoon pepper (ground black pepper)
2 cups milk (whole milk)
1⁄2 cup cream
1⁄2 teaspoon onion (onion powder)
8 slices bread (toasted)

Instructions

  1. Brown ground beef with diced onions until onions are transparent and beef no longer pink. Drain.
  2. Make a roux for cream sauce: melt butter in sauce pan, add flour, sea salt, ground pepper & onion powder. Stir well, slowly add milk & cream. Continue to stir until sauce thickens.
  3. Remove from burner, add ground beef with onions. Toast bread.
  4. Serve creamed ground beef over toast. Great Sunday evening meal.

Notes

A serving is two toasted slices of bread with creamed beef.

A light version can be prepared, using half fat milk,very light cream, and substituting butter with flavorless vegetable oil such as sunflower oil.
