BBQ short ribs

Prepare melt-in-the-mouth BBQ short ribs, one of all time favorites for the barbecue season.

Ingredients

2 teaspoons salt (optional)
3⁄4 cup onion (chopped)
1 tablespoon cooking oil (vegetable oil)
3⁄4 cup tomato ketchup
1⁄2 cup honey (or corn syrup)
1⁄3 cup lemon juice
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons mustard
1⁄2 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon herbs (optional, dried herbs)
4 pounds beef (beef short ribs, fat trimmed)

Instructions

  1. Place ribs and salt in 4-qt. saucepan or Dutch oven. Cover with water, bring to a boil. Cover the pan; simmer 1-1/2 to 2 hours or until tender.
  2. Prepare the sauce while the ribs cook. Sauté onion in oil until tender. Add remaining ingredients; simmer 15 minutes.
  3. Drain ribs. Place on rack in broiler pan or over ash-colored coals on outdoor grill so meat is 6 to 7 inches from heat.
  4. Barbecue, grill or broil ribs, turning occasionally and basting with the sauce, until slightly toasted on the surface.
  5. Serve.
