Cream cheese frosting

This classic cream cheese frosting is smooth, rich, and lightly tangy, with just enough sweetness to pair beautifully with cakes. It spreads easily, pipes well, and adds a soft, creamy finish that lets the flavor of the cake shine.

Ingredients

1 package cream cheese (softened, 8 ounce package)
1⁄2 cup butter (unsalted butter, softened)
4 cups confectioner's sugar (sifted if lumpy)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pinch salt

Instructions

Place the softened cream cheese and butter in a large mixing bowl.

Beat until smooth, creamy, and fully combined.

Add the confectioners’ sugar gradually, mixing on low speed at first so it does not fly out of the bowl.

Add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.

Beat until the frosting is smooth, light, and spreadable.

Preparation time 15 minutes

1 batch

Notes

Make sure the cream cheese and butter are softened before mixing for the smoothest texture.

If the frosting feels too soft, chill it for 15 to 20 minutes before using.

If you want a slightly thicker frosting, add a little more confectioners’ sugar.

Store any leftover frosting covered in the refrigerator. Let it soften slightly before spreading.
