dips & spreads
Ideas for dips and spreads.
Apple appetizer
An ideal appetizer for harvest time or to celebrate Halloween.
Amish peanut butter
Amish peanut butter is a spread for bread rolls. Amish peanut butter can also be purchased from several companies that specialize in Amish foods, but why buy something that is easily made at home? This does make a rather large batch. It stores well in a sealed container, but making a half batch works well too.
Sundried tomato and black olive dip
A relatively low-fat dip that’s delicious served with cut veggies or baked pita triangles.
Lemon black olive hummus
Traditional hummus includes tahini which is the paste that binds the hummus together. I’ve replaced it in this recipe with low-fat yogurt for a reduced-calorie yet still delicious hummus. However, if you prefer replace the yogurt with 2 Tbs of tahini and follow instructions below.
Strawberry pineapple freezer jam
Traditional preserves do not taste at all like fresh fruit. Freezer jams, on the other hand, preserve the flavor of the fresh fruit.
Figs in syrup
These figs in syrup taste heavenly and it is a great way to take advantage and get some extra when figs are ripe as their season is short.
Eggplant spread
This eggplant spread is great on crackers, or toasted bread.
Louis dressing
Serve Louis dressing over cooked shrimp, tomato slices, or hard boiled eggs. It can also be used as dipping sauce.
Chili coriander dressing
This is one case where dried coriander does not work. Use only fresh coriander leaves to prepare the dressing.
Sesame seed and green chili dip
This is a hot and spicy dressing or dipping sauce where East meets West.
