Coffee meatloaf sauce

Australian Meatloaf is becoming increasingly popular outside kangaroo country and this is the sauce to go with it.


1 T coffee (instant coffee)
1⁄4 c water
1⁄4 c wine (red wine)
2 T vinegar
1 T butter
2 t sugar (or to taste, brown sugar)
1 onion (peeled and finely chopped)


Heat butter in a pan on a low heat and fry the onion until it softens and gets a little color.

Add the rest of the ingredients and take the sauce to the boil. Simmer gently for 10-15 minutes.

Use this sauce with your favorite meatloaf recipes. After the meat has cooked for 30 minutes, add the sauce and bake 45 minutes more at 375°F (190°C)

This sauce also goes well with barbecued ribs or chicken.
