Marzipan filled pears
A sweet dessert that tastes like cake but it is a little healthier because of the fruit.
Ingredients
2 pear (large, peeled and halved)
1 cup wine (fruity white wine)
1⁄2 teaspoon ajwain
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1⁄4 pound marzipan
3 tablespoons liquor (Cointreau)
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon pistachios (shelled)
2 tablespoons lemon juice
Instructions
- Place wine, lemon juice, coriander seeds and maple syrup in a pan and bring to the boil. Add the pear halves and simmer for 8-10 minutes. Remove the pears. Keep the liquid.
- Mix marzipan and Cointreau. Fill the cavity in the pear halves with this mixture. Cook under the broiler for 5 minutes.
- Mix cornstarch with a little water and add to the liquid in the pan. Incorporate the chopped pistachios and simmer until it has thickened.
- Place 1 pear piece on each plate, pour some sauce over.

A serving is one half pear.
Vanilla ice cream is a good accompaniment to this dessert, if you want to add a little extra. Prepare soma sabayon and serve marzipan filled pears with two sauces.
