Chives

Chives grow usually in clusters; for that reason, they are usually referred to only in plural. Their taste reminds of onions or garlic, this last one is the case of Chinese chives.

Bay leaf

Bay leaf tastes like slightly bitter pepper, with a resinous note. Use in stews, broths, marinades, pickles and in your bouquet garni. Matches well with lentils or beans.

Basil

Basil combines well with oregano, as used in Italian cuisine. Consider it a perfect match for tomato sauce.

Pesto

This green basil, pine nut and garlic sauce is the pride of Genoa. Serve pesto with any pasta of your choice, cooked, drained, and placed in a warmed dish as a first course. Pesto is also excellent with potatoes or as a base sauce for pizza.
