Orange flavored fig jam

Use this fig  jam as a spread, to sweeten your morning cereal or a as a base for a dessert sauce.

Ingredients

1⁄2 cup water
3 tablespoons orange juice
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1⁄2 cup sugar (sugar with added pectin)
125 grams fig (dried figs, clean)
1 tablespoon liquor (optional, orange flavored liquor)

Instructions

  1. Bring figs and water to the boil over a medium heat in a stainless steel saucepan. Reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring frequently, until figs are soft and cooked through. Transfer to a blender and puree until smooth.
  2. Put the pureed figs into a saucepan; add orange and lemon juice. Bring to the boil again and add the sugar.
  3. Cook over high heat for 1-2 minutes, stirring continuously. Stir in orange flavored liqueur and turn heat off.
  4. Ready to eat once cooled down.

Notes

This recipe can be prepared in larger quantities and canned. The suggestion is to scale it six times to make six 8 oz jars of fig jam. Process each jar for 10 minutes in a pressure canner.
