New England breakfast

A traditional breakfast of wild strawberries and cream, brook trout with bacon, and a side of coffee.

Ingredients

1 cup strawberries (wild strawberries or the smallest cultivated ones available)
1⁄2 cup cream (the heaviest cream you can find)
4 teaspoons sugar (some sugar for taste)
  cooking fat (bacon fat or butter)
  honey
  bacon (optional, crispy bacon to serve on the side)
2 trout (small brook trout, clean)

Instructions

Strawberries and cream

Mix the sugar and heavy cream together, pour over a bowl of strawberries.

Pan fried brook trout

Clean trout, dip in corn meal and fry in the butter or bacon fat, using a heavy skillet, until crispy brown on both sides.

Serve with bacon and honey.

Notes

Cook the bacon first and use the fat to cook the trout.
