Johnny Mazzetti

The ingredients given are for large quantities of this Panamian delice. Just right to organize a Panama themed party or feed a crowd at any occasion.

Ingredients

1 1⁄2 lb beef (ground)
2 lb pork (ground)
6 onion (chopped)
6 clv garlic (chopped)
2 c bell pepper (sliced)
2 cn tomato (large, 2 lb each)
2 cn soup (tomato soup)
3 c mushroom (with liquid if from a can)
2 c olives (stuffed olives, sliced)
2 cn bell pepper (chopped)
1 bn parsley (chopped fresh leaves)
5 c cheese (grated, American cheese)
1 1⁄2 lb noodles (egg noodles, wide type)
1 T pepper (ground black pepper)
3 lf bay leaf
  salt (to taste)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, saut?® the beef and pork in the oil. While the meats are still slightly pink add the garlic cloves, onions and peppers. Fry for 2 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients, except the noodles and cheese. Simmer for 5 minutes over a low heat.
  2. Cook and drain noodles, follow the directions the back of the package.
  3. Heat oven to 275ºF (130ºC). Lightly grease a large, deep baking pan.
  4. Layer the noodles and meat mixture, starting with the noodles. Sprinkle the grated cheese on he top layer.
  5. Bake in a slow oven for 2 hours.

Notes

Johnny Mazzetti freezes very well and we have been told that it tastes better every time it is re-heated. If you were not planning a Panama themed party, don't worry, prepare the amount given and freeze in smaller portions to have home made ready meals.
