Golden milk
Golden milk, also known as turmeric milk, is a warm, soothing beverage rooted in traditional Ayurvedic practices. This vibrant drink is loved for its creamy texture, mild spiciness, and earthy aroma.
Instructions
Pour the milk into a small saucepan and place it over medium heat. Add the turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, and black pepper. If you’re using vanilla extract, include it now.
Whisk the mixture to combine the spices evenly. Bring the milk to a gentle simmer. Stir occasionally to prevent the spices from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
Allow the milk to simmer for 5-7 minutes. This helps the flavors meld together and ensures the spices are properly infused.
Remove the saucepan from heat. Taste the golden milk and add honey or maple syrup for sweetness, if desired. Strain the milk through a fine mesh sieve to remove any sediment or ginger fibers.
Pour the golden milk into mugs and serve warm. Garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or a twist of freshly ground black pepper if you like.
Notes
The ground black pepper enhances turmeric absorption.
You could mix the ground spices in advance and store them in an airtight jar. Use 1-2 teaspoons of the mix per serving of milk for convenience.
Variations
For a golden milk latte, whisk the prepared golden milk with frothed milk for a café-style treat.
For a spiced golden milk, add a pinch of cardamom or nutmeg for extra depth and warmth.
For an iced golden milk, chill the prepared golden milk in the fridge, then pour it over ice for a refreshing summer drink.
Source
Golden milk is best enjoyed warm, ideally in the evening as a calming drink before bedtime. You can pair it with a light snack, like a piece of dark chocolate or a handful of nuts, to make it even more comforting.
