Cuban banana-pineapple milkshake

Cuban milkshakes, batidos, are icy drinks that are very popular also in the United States, particularly in the areas where the most population are from Cuban origin. These fruity drinks are able to quench your thirst in any tropical climate.

Ingredients

2 banana (small, ripe)
3⁄4 c milk (low fat)
1 c pineapple (small chunks)
3 T milk (or to taste, sweetened condensed milk)
1 1⁄2 c ice (crushed)

Instructions

Put the banana slices and pineapple chunks into the blender.

Pour lime juice, condensed milk, and milk into the blender. Blend until all the fruit pieces disappear and you are left with a smooth, thick drink.

Add the crushed ice. Whirl for a few seconds.

Distribute the milkshakes into tall glasses. Serve straight away.

Notes

Strain the milkshake, before adding the crushed ice, if there is too much fibrous pulp from the pineapple.

Most recipes use condensed milk as sweetener and, if the fruit is ripe and sweet, there is no need to add much of it, but add it to your taste, or substitute condensed milk with brown sugar.

Batidos come in different flavors, such as banana and pineapple, mango-papaya, pineapple and mango or, strawberry and banana, a Westernized flavor. Choose your favorite fruits. They're very easy to make. Put al the ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth.
