Bahamian rum sauce

This is a simple, rich dessert sauce made with butter, sugar, and rum, beaten until light, smooth, and fluffy. It is especially good spooned over warm bread pudding, where its sweet buttery texture and gentle rum flavor melt into the pudding beautifully. A light grating of nutmeg on top gives it a classic finish.

Ingredients

1⁄2 cup butter (softened)
1 cup sugar (white sugar)
1⁄4 cup rum
nutmeg (to taste, freshly grated nutmeg for serving )

Instructions

Place the softened butter and sugar in a mixing bowl.

Cream them together until the mixture is light and smooth.

Add the rum a little at a time, beating well after each addition. Adding the rum slowly keeps the sauce smooth and airy.

Continue beating until the sauce is very fluffy.

To serve, spoon the rum sauce over warm bread pudding and finish with a little grated nutmeg on top.

Notes

If the sauce feels too firm, let it stand at room temperature for a few minutes before serving.

Serve it with Bahamian bread pudding for a classic pairing. Try it over other warm desserts, such as steamed puddings or simple cake.

Bring it to the table in a small bowl so everyone can add as much as they like.
