Peas, or garden peas, are a legume most often eaten green rather than dried. The plant has firm, rounded pods containing the peas inside.

The peas are the edible part. They have a sweet taste and can be eaten raw or cooked. Peas can also be found frozen or canned.

To prepare fresh peas, shell the peas and discard the pods.

Peas can be found frozen and they can be cooked from frozen or not, depending on the recipe.

Canned peas usually need only to be drained.
